Suzette Battan Music Director
Suzette Battan brings her enthusiasm and expertise to her thirtieth-fourth year as the Tucson Philharmonia's Music Director. She has served as the Music Director of the Southwest Minnesota Orchestra and the University of Florida Symphony Orchestra, and as the conductor of many regional and statewide honor orchestras. She hold a M.M. degree in Violin Performance and Pedagogy and a Ph.D. in Theory and Composition from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. Her conducting studies at Eastman and at the Aspen Music Festival included work with Gustav Meier, Donald Hunsberger, Bruce Hangen, and Paul Vermel. As a violinist, she has performed with numerous ensembles over the past sixty years.
Tucson Philharmonia members will receive coaching sessions throughout the year by members of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and the University of Arizona School of Music faculty, and will also work with distinguished guest conductors.
